A Working Woman’s Guide to Figuring //OUT What to Wear...

It’s official. Fall is here!

Don’t use that as an excuse though to ‘fall’ prey, (pardon the pun), to the same drab, corporate poly-blend attire you may have worn last year in order to keep your tush warm as the temperature dropped.

We feel it’s time to tackle corporate attire in an honest and straightforward way. And…. hopefully give some inspiration on how to inject some fashion spark into your salary-servicing garb.

Bluntly, if you want to scoot around the water cooler in a knee-length stretch black skirt, matching peplum flared jacket and mid-rise nude pump, good for you. But don’t expect to be earning fashion kudos outside your own cubicle, as there are plenty of 9-5 appropriate looks that can bring you style joy while also allowing you to “get the job done.”

With this in mind, we’re taking a look at five corporate style trends that can truly take you from office chic to post-employment hour elegant.

5 Corporate Style Trends

Or call it bordeaux, maroon, marsala, red wine (our favorite)…. This pinot-toned hue is a big fall color trend.

Trend Tip: Pair with nudes or keep it monochromatic to avoid what we like to call color clashing. Reach for leather leggings to keep the look fashion-forward, or grab a denim jacket to throw on for after-work social sessions.

Shades of green, from olive to army, definitely made their rank known on the runways this season. It’s a flattering choice this fall and a great alternative to black. Wear as career-friendly (and comfortable) pants or as a jacket.

Our perfect pairing for this color hero? Nude. Naked-bliss and natural hues are more “PC” and office appropriate than their names suggest. Great for lightening up your pre-winter look, before the Santa Ana winds show up in full force.

Lightweight layers are the best way to transition into your winter wardrobe look and show your smarts in both the fashion and boardroom stakes.

Think trench coats, gathered layering tops, and cool asymmetrical bras for an interesting (yet intellectual) and architectural look + anything jersey goes!

4. THE NEW SHAPES: Slim and Slinky

Banish the boxy blazer and slip into comfy, slim-fit stretch pieces to keep your look streamlined. Black and white colors get the tick of approval to ensure this shape-slimming look is less body-con and more chic and conspicuous.

Look for tailored jackets, tucked white shirts and super flattering slim trousers and leggings.

5. THE TEXTURE: Leather Lovin’

Leather has firmly moved out of its rocker realm and into the everyday essential category. Incorporating leather into your work attire is the obvious next step.

Keep the look ‘plenty profesh’ by limiting leather to one piece in your full look. Our vote is for a leather skirt or pants teamed with silk blouses and a nude strappy heel.

So there your have it. Our //OUT touch of inspiration to ensure you work that work //OUTfit as much as you do that coffee machine and MacBook this style season.
